Sarah Burns created this program to take the RTP concepts and games and share them within her community by going to different elementary schools. It is 100% student driven!
Bill Crothers Secondary School grade 9-11 student volunteers travel to elementary schools in York Region and run games with grades 3-8. The games played are all Right To Play games that are used in disadvantaged countries all around the world. The elementary children play 15 different Right To Play games, learning about co-operation, trust, problem solving, healthy-active living, leadership and different world issues. After playing the game for 10 mins, the BCSS student will have a discussion with the group of children on how the game can relate to their lives, and the lives of children around the world. The program has recruited 36 BCSS volunteers, who have all been trained so they can effectively explain their game, and the importance of it within the global community. .
All elementary children make a donation of $4 to RTP.
Before each Right To Play FACTivity Day, Sarah got a chance to speak at the elementary school's assembly to promote the RTP concepts and spread awareness.
They have so far gone to Parkview Public School and Unionville Public School and are running the day at Carrville Public School at the end of June. They are also planning to continue to run these events next fall. .
The days have been a huge success and the kids have so much fun! It's a fantastic way to gain support for such a great cause!
